Please see my 2 response in CCleaner 6.00/6.01 Portable Not Available to employee Dave CCleaner's comments on this subject. When I see it properly, then there are also no portable versions of Speccy and Recuva available (at least not the current versions). I only use the Custom Clean feature and I suspect that most CCleaner Portable users would actually prefer to have many of the "extra" features like Performance Optimizer, etc, removed from the portable build.Ħ4-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1766 * Firefox v101.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v.5-0.6 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.10.200- * CCleaner Free Portable vĭell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620 I agree with your comment about Performance Optimizer, Software Updater, etc. I now have to manually remove all these unnecessary registry keys and tasks from my system and will be going back to using CCleaner Portable v5.91 for now. According to Andavari's 0 post in bgavin's thread the registry entries were created because the portable.dat file was not located in the same folder as CCleaner.exe and CCleaner64.exe executables in CCleaner Portable v5.92. ![]() for Windows about all the unexpected registry entries and Task Scheduler tasks that were created on my system by this buggy v5.92 release. See my 0 post in bgavin's Bug Report: Portable 6. There were bigger problems with CCleaner Portable v5.92 than the problem with non-English languages that mogli reported in 5.92 portable broken. What's the story? Was this intentional? Is there a serious problem with v5.92 (besides the following, which has an easy workaround: )?ĭave CCleaner's 2 announcement states that " As such, for the time being we have rolled back the portable version on the website to 5.91 until we can come up with a satisfactory solution ". In the meantime, I noticed that the portable version v5.92 was replaced with v5.91 on the official download page. At least for me, I'm fine if it doesn't have the Performance Optimizer or Driver Updater or Software Updater, as I'm not planning on using these (much too much "feature creep" for my preference). Of course you should already know about PortableApps.I'm also looking forward to continued portable releases. And again about the registry, some actually create registry data.Ī good source for finding portable software with user comments letting you know if it's not a 100% true portable is: NET Framework, a scripting language, etc. CFG, etc., files to remember your preferences - imagine if a portable web browser didn't remember preferences - well it would be the definition of completely useless.Ī portable may not damage files on the system, however some may require the installation of some other software just to function which could cause system issues such as Java. Those mentioned Wise software titles will create registry data (at least one CLSID key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\) regardless of how you use the software, and they'll create AppData if you click the button in it titled Assistance - not to pick on Wise software because I actually like it, just using it as an example.Īs for not remembering settings, some use. ![]() That's why I always track the first time usage of portable software using Total Uninstall.Īlso you can't really trust downloading the "portable" version of some software (lets use "portable" zipped Wise Disk Cleaner & Wise Uninstaller from the official homepage, and the versions Wise Disk Cleaner Portable & Wise Uninstaller Portable as examples) because the only thing "portable" about them is there's no traditional setup file (well the packaged versions sort of have a setup file, but it's just a pure SFX). Sure a 100% true portable won't do that, but some actually will create registry data, and some will create AppData, and some both. A portable app isn’t going to modify anything in the registry so there is less chance of things going wrong. There is always the chance that a malicious file might be bundled in the EXE file but that comes down to the app itself coming from an unreliable source. * A portable app is unlikely to damage critical files on your system. These may include recent or frequently accessed files and directories among other things. * A portable app will not remember you personal preferences and settings. * A portable file will not modify the Windows registry in any way.
